About

A research program that says what it knows, and what it does not

We are building methods to show what lies below the seabed, and to say how sure we are. The work is at research stage.

Mission

Why the program exists.

Understanding the ground below the sea is hard, and an image that hides its doubts can mislead. Our mission is to combine several kinds of physical measurement into one picture and to keep the uncertainty attached to it.

The applications we study are civilian: marine science, resource surveys, hazard assessment and infrastructure planning.

Principles

Four commitments that shape how the work is done.

Concept

Physics first

A model must obey wave physics before any learning is added to it.

wavefield · FWI

Concept

Uncertainty as a feature

Each result is paired with the range of answers the data still allows.

uncertainty · posterior distribution

Concept

Evidence you can trace

Every number on screen should lead back to the data and code that produced it.

provenance · reproducibility

Concept

Safe AI

Learned components are tested against held-out geology and cannot certify science.

synthetic data · ground truth

Governance

How we decide that something is true enough to say.

Every claim on this site has a maturity state, and the default is concept. A claim moves up only when evidence and an independent reviewer support it.

Work moves through gates. A gate is passed by a recorded check, not by an opinion. Independent review sits outside the team that did the work.

Artificial intelligence may help to draft and to compute. It cannot certify science, and it never changes a maturity state by itself.

The company

The plain facts about who is behind the program.

Independent from other Zyrix programs

This program is an independent technology venture and R&D program of Zyrix Technologies Inc. It is run separately from the other programs of the parent company, with its own aims, evidence and review.
